379,457. Fluid-pressure brakes. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI, 22, Corso Venezia, Milan, Italy. July 7, 1931, No. 19556. Convention date, July 8, 1930. [Class 103 (i).] A motor vehicle vacuum brake comprising valves which produce a variable and continuous current of air in a vacuum chamber 4 during the working of the brake is provided with a closing member 32b which prevents air from the source of vacuum returning to the vacuum chamber 4 and a closing member 35c which ensures air-tight closure of the vacuum chamber from the atmosphere when the brakes are fully applied. The member 32b comprises a rubber flap engaging a polished seat. The member 35c comprises a flexible rim on a valve 32c mounted on the valve operating stem 3c. The face of the valve 32c is provided with passages so that when it engages the seat 33d the rim 35c is drawn into engagement with the polished seat 33d. Operation of the brake pedal 13 applies the brake 12 through levers 6, 8 and a rod 7 and simultaneously by means of the lever 6 shifts the rod 3c into the bellows moving the piston valve 33c to uncover ducts 3h, 3f thus connecting to vacuum the bellows 4 which move to apply the brakes by means of the lever 8. The plunger 31c enters the duct 3 and throttles the current of air entering from the atmospheric opening 3a.
