[Class 27.] Billiard &c. tables, hiring.-In a coin-freed apparatus and automatic time signal for billiards and other games of the kind having means for setting in motion, after insertion of a coin, ball delivering mechanism and clockwork mechanism for warning, timing, and switching on and off electric lights, a rod 21, Figs. 1 and 2, can be pushed in by a push-piece 22 after prepayment, the end of the rod moving a lever 27, pivoted at 29, against the action of a spring 28 so that a hooked arm 30 depending from the spindle 29 releases a weighted lever 31 thereby allowing a platform 32 to tilt and deliver the balls 5 through an opening 6. A lug 25 on the rod 21 acts on a cranked arm having a lug 40 and mounted on the arbor 11 of the clockwork 12 to set a pointer 10 to a starting point, representing a period of, for example, twenty minutes. A bar 36 starts the balance wheel 37 of the clock. The rod 21 also moves the stem 42 of a spring-pressed lever 43 which, through a connecting rod 44, actuates a switch 45 to switch on lights over the billiard table &c., the stem 42 being retained by a notch 50 on one end 41 of a trigger 38. A resilient pawl 46 is also withdrawn by the stem 42 from engagement with a wheel 47 of the clock. At the end of the period paid for, the lug 40 trips the other end 39 of the trigger 38, so that the lever 43 returns and opens the switch 45, and the pawl 46 stops the clock. The return of the connecting rod 44 closes a contact c and an electric bell b rings, until another coin is inserted or the balls are replaced through an opening 7, the platform 32 then breaking the bell circuit at contacts m, k, n. The bell circuit is so arranged that the bell rings on the delivery of the balls while the rod 21 is pushed in. Coin action, weight.-A coin inserted through a slit 14 drops down a shoot 15 to a receptacle 16 on one end of a weighted lever 17. The other end is forked at 18, 19, the arm 18 normally engaging a slot in the rod 21. When the rod 21 is pushed in, a catch 23 coacting with the arm 19 releases the lever 17 for the coin to drop to a money-box.
