[Class 20 (iv).] A flat metal sheet for roofs, decks, partitions, and like surfaces, of the kind provided with reinforcing ribs 12 and with a plain flange 2 and a curved flange 3 for engagement with adjacent sheets, is formed with slots 15, 18 which facilitate assembly of the sheets. Adjacent to the slots 15, the ribs 12 are of reduced cross section for engagement within parts of ribs formed on an adjacent sheet. Hook bolts may be passed through the overlapping base portions of the ribs to secure the sheets to a portion, rafter, or like member, the slots facilitating access to the bolts. Portions 16 of the rib flanges exposed by the slots 15 serve as seatings for metal covers. Where the sheets overlap, the effective thickness of the surface may be only that of two sheets, by the arrangement of the overlapping portions of the ribs, as shown in Fig. 6, the lower rib 12 having exposed flanges wide enough to accommodate the flanges of the upper rib 14. The flanges 2, 3 are cut away, as shown, at one end of the sheet, and at the opposite end are formed with pressed-in portions 8, 9, adapted to be overlapped by portions 10, 11 of an adjacent panel. In a modification, the flanges are cut away and pressed in at the same end. The sheets when used in making a roof may be covered by bituminized felt in sheet form with an intervening layer of heat-insulating material.
