377,166. Lubricating. FORT, M. J. and BREVIAIRE. R. A. DE, 21, Rue de Clichy, Paris. Jan. 14, 1931, No. 1269. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 12 (iii).] A lubricating installation for automobiles, aviation engines, &c. includes thermal and pressure indicators and means for adjusting the pressure of the lubricant arranged so that the lubricant pressure can-be varied according to the temperature. As shown for an automobile lubricating system, a pump a draws from a sump b and supplies pressure lubricant to a pipe line a<1>. The pressure in the latter can be adjusted. by a spring-pressed ball valve c having a byepass a<2> to the sump b. The pressure is adjusted according to the temperature of the lubricant. The thermometric instrument may be combined in the pressure indicator casing and consist of a bent capillary tube, Fig. 4, disposed in such a manner in respect to the pressure indicator g that when the regulator f of the valve c is adjusted so that the indicator g registers with the end of the heat sensitive column of the capillary tube, the correct pressure in the system is obtained. Instead of a liquid temperature indicator, a metallic thermometric instrument may be used.
