Abstract

375,873. Digesters. WESTAD, D., Bygd÷y, near Oslo, Norway. March 30, 1931, No. 10159/32. Convention date, May 27, 1930. Divided on 375,821, [Group VIII]. [Class 64 (i).] A container 1 for impregnating wood chips, straw, &c. with aqueous solutions of chemicals under pressure e.g. 5-20 atmospheres, prior to digestion in the manufacture of cellulose, has the bottom sloping towards a discharge outlet 3 for the impregnated material located near the wall of the container and communicating with a downwardly directed discharge tube. The container 1 comprises a conical body and a substantially hemispherical bottom developed towards the outlet 3 adjacent a nose 2. An opening 4 facilitates filling, cleaning, or repairs, and openings 5, 6 are connected with pipes for sulphite or soda liquid &c. with or without chips &c. The bottom causes vortex flow on emptying, which prevents obstructing accumulations of chips &c. ; ribs or recesses in the bottom, or guides, may aid starting vortex flow.
