Abstract
375,558. Games of chance. BUTTERWORTH, A. L., Sundorne, Bishopthorpe, and HETHERTON, J., 19, Sycamore Place, both in York. July 3, 1931, No. 19262. [Class 132 (ii).] In an apparatus for playing games of chance an inertia motor adapted rapidly to be rotated manually, is connected through reduction gearing with the movable element of a rotary selector switch which controls the illumination of a number of lamps giving an indication of the result of the operation. As shown, the inertia motor is set in movement by pressing-in a handle 14 to engage the driving gear and then rotating the handle. On releasing the handle, a spring uncouples the gearing from the handle and leaves the motor free to drive the rotary selector switch through a crank and reduction gearing. The selector switch comprises a number of unequal segments 21, Fig. 3, electrically connected in pairs by wires 20, and each pair includes in its circuit one of a series of lamps arranged beneath translucent areas 5 each bearing the name of a horse, the odds against the horse being inscribed on an adjacent section 4. A conical shade round each lamp also directs the light on to a corresponding horse depicted on a screen 3. As the rotating contact 23 passes over the segments the lamps are illuminated in turn, and, when the inertia motor comes to rest, the name of the winning horse and its representation on the screen 3 remain illuminated.
