Abstract

<PICT:0374195/IV/1> Designs are printed on textile fabrics by spraying colour through a travelling stencil against one surface of a fabric travelling in contact with the stencil, and applying suction behind the fabric and in the path of the spray to cause the colour to penetrate through the fabric to the other surface. As shown, a stencil 8 is wrapped around a rotary drum or cage consisting of endplates grooved to receive pneumatic tyres, and wires 12 connected to bolts on one plate and to spring pawls on the other so that by inflating the tyres the wires are tightly stretched. Spraying-nozzles 22, 23, 24 arranged in a stationary casing 15 inside the drum, are supplied with differently-coloured dyes from separate containers 19, 20, 21, and apply colour in succession through an opening in one side of the casing and through the stencil on to fabric t passing between the drum and an endless wire-gauze feed belt 31. The colour is sucked through the fabric by a suction device 60. A suction device 30<1> for cleaning the interior of the stencil is arranged inside the drum, and hot air and water jets 39, 40, respectively, are provided below the casing to wash and dry the stencil. The supply of compressed air to the nozzles is controlled by valves which are opened in succession by means of cams fixed on a shaft rotated through a variable-speed device comprising a disc and a rotary friction roller adjustable radially with respect thereto.
