Abstract
373,423. Electric discharge devices. M.-O. VALVE CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London, EDEN, C. G. and SMITHELLS, C. J., of General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. June 1, 1931, No. 15998. [Class 39 (i).] The metallic members such as electrode - supporting wires or rods of an electric discharge device are connected rigidly to an insulating support by stretching them over the surface of an elongated vitreous body and heating the body so that the metallic members sink into it. In one method, a series of glass rods 2, Figs. 1 and 2, ate carried on the circumference of a rotating drum 1, and the wires 4 are stretched around part of the circumference so that they bear on the rods 2. The rods are located between projections 3 which serve to limit the depth of penetration of the wires into the rods when the latter are heated by a flame 5 past which they are carried. A series of wires with attached supports is obtained by cutting the wires between the rods or heads 2.
