Abstract

371,529. Drills and cutters. SINCLAIR, J., 119, Gorgie Road, Edinburgh. Feb. 26, 1931, No. 6017. [Class 83 (iii).] A tool for counterboring the bungholes of wooden casks comprises a hollow rotary cutter 11 rotated by a handle 13 and terminating at its lower end in a cylindrical portion 19 serving to centre it in the bunghole, the cutter having a frustro-conical portion 17 flared at 18, one or more sets of cutters being adjustably and removably inserted in said portion. Each set of cutters comprises a leading cutter 21 to score a V-shaped notch 32 in the base of the counterbore, an intermediate cutter 22 to clear this notch and form the sunk shoulder 31, and a reaming blade 23 to cut and shape a frustro-conical portion flared as at 30. These successive operations are shown diagrammatically in Fig. 9. Radial clearance holes 27 are provided to guide the shavings into the interior of the cutter head. The counterbore produced is suitable for receiving the bush described in Specification 371,792, [Group XVII].
