Abstract
Dolomite (which may or may not have been burned) is caused to react with substances (preferably natural rocks) capable of retarding hydration of the finished article to give a material which is then moulded with a non-aqueous liquid binder yielding little or no fixed carbon, and burnt. In a preferred form, dolomite is lightly burnt, mixed with substances to prevent hydration such as kaolin and labradorite, mixed with water and burnt as rough bricks. The burnt material is then crushed, mixed with the binder, e.g. oil, moulded and burnt. The first burning may be greater than indicated above or even omitted.
