Abstract
The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the treatment of fats, fatty oils and resins, to remove easily oxidizable substances capable of being volatilized by heat. The treatment may be by distillation in steam, air, oxygen or an inert gas. An example of the treatment of olive oil by distillation in steam is given. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Soya beans and bran obtained therefrom are treated to remove substances easily oxidized on contact with air or oxygen and to prevent rancidity by subjection in a heated vessel to steam distillation, the steam passing continually into and out of the vessel or being formed therein and withdrawn continuously therefrom, and carrying away the oxidizable substances. A current of gas, preferably inert, may be passed through the vessel during the steam treatment, air being usable in the case of bran. Where the beans contain or are provided with sufficient water, the steam may be generated therefrom and removed from the vessel under reduced pressure or by a current of hot dry gas which may also dry the beans. The beans may be subjected to a wet husking treatment in which they swell slightly and take up sufficient water for generating steam in the process. Acids or alkalis, or both, or other electrolytes may be added and may be in vapour form when the materials already contain sufficient moisture. The materials may be germinated and may be soaked in a solvent, e.g. alcohol, before the treatment. Specifications 141,341, [Class 49, Food &c.], and 234,202 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a)), [Class 58, Grain &c.], and German Specifications 446,892 and 406,170 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the treatment of leguminous and other seeds, and bran therefrom, and peanuts to remove easily oxidizable substances capable of being volatilized by heat. The treatment may be by distillation in steam, air, oxygen or an inert gas. An example of the treatment of barley grains is given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the treatment of other vegetable materials and animal materials, including leguminous and other seeds, and bran therefrom, peanuts, fats, fatty oils, resins, cod livers, butter and milk to remove easily oxidizable substances capable of being volatilized by heat. The treatment may be by distillation in steam, air, oxygen or an inert gas. Examples of the treatment of olive oil by distillation in steam and of barley grains are given. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
