[Classes 27 and 116.] Coin action, with stationary coin forming abutment.-A coin-exchanging mechanism for use with prepayment meters, vending-machines, &c., comprises a drawer b receiving the change coins, pennies, from a shoot a into which they pass after freeing the prepayment meter &c. The drawer is locked by a vertical sliding bolt d controlled by a spring f. When the coin for which change is desired, a shilling, is inserted in a shoot g, it drops to a flap m connected by a link n to the drawer and forms a fulcrum for a lever h pivoted to the bolt d and having a pin h<1> working in a slot g<1> of the shoot g. By depressing the outer end of the lever h the bolt d is raised and the drawer can be pulled out against a spring l to allow the change coins to drop therefrom. The recess in the drawer is deep enough to contain twelve pennies which rest on a fixed shelf c beneath the drawer. The shilling cannot be inserted until the thirteenth penny falls into the shoot a and actuates a lever to withdraw its upper end g<1> from the shoot g. The opening of the drawer b tilts the flap m to discharge the shilling to a money box. Surplus coins for the shoot a are prevented from blocking the mechanism by a shield or hood p. The apparatus may be built into the ordinary coin-box o of a meter &c., or it may be set up in post offices or like places merely to give change.
