Abstract
366,179. Slatting or opening hanks. COLEY, J., MAIN, S. A., WILDT & CO., Ltd., Adelaide Works, Leicester. Nov. 19, 1930, Nos. 34815 and 35651. [Class 120 (iii).] In apparatus for slatting or opening hanks prior to their being placed on the swift of a winding-machine, of the kind comprising two or more rolls or like rotatable holders for the hank and means to tension the hank and to move it on the rolls in the direction of its circumference, one of the carriers which is rotated to move the hank is of non- circular cross section, and at least one other is of circular cross section one of the carriers which is of cylindrical form is rotatable about an axis movable towards the axis of the rotated carrier ; the tension on the hanks is' preferably applied by means which serves to press the carriers apart ; and means is provided to deliver impacts to the hanks as they are moved. As shown, the carriers comprise a roll 10 mounted to move against the tension of a spring 26 and a spider 14, and the hank is beaten by metal discs 43 carried by a frame 40 oscillated by a cam groove 45 in a member secured to or integral with the spider 14. The roll 10 is depressed by a handle 30 or a treadle to permit the mounting of the hank, which is tensioned when the roll is released by the spring 26. The spider 14 is rotated by hand or power to move the hank, and, by the action of its bars, serves also to assist in the beating action. One or both rolls may be eccentrically mounted so that tension is applied intermittently to the hank. The arm or lever carrying the beating- means may be arranged to be operated by suitable abutments. Specification 5254/99, [Class 120, Spinning], is referred to.
