Abstract

365,876. Glue. AKT.-GES. FUR 'CHEMISCHE PRODUKTE VORM. H. SCHEIDEMANDEL, 35, Dorotheenstrasse, Berlin. March 24, 1931, No. 9010. Convention date, April 8, 1930. [Class 121.] In a process for extracting glue from material such as crushed bones in a boiler battery by means of alternate steam pressure treatment and lixiviation, all the boilers in operation are simultaneously emptied of liquid and then all placed under steam pressure. Preferably the liquid content of each boiler is held during the steam pressure periods in a separate receptacle for return to its relative boiler at the end of each steam treatment. During each lixiviation period the lixiviating liquid is passed in a continuous current through the boilers, preferably by forcing water into the boiler containing the most completely de-glued bones, so that a current is set up in the direction of the least completely de-glued boiler, thus forcing the glue liquor towards the outlet. Boilers a<1>.. a<5> are filled with lixiviating liquid while boiler a<6> is being emptied or refilled. The liquid contents of each boiler a<1> .. a<5> are forced separately by steam or compressed air supplied by a conduit g through conduits m into receptacles b<1> .. b<5>. Steam under pressure is then supplied to the boilers by the conduit g and is subsequently exhausted through a conduit i. The lixiviating liquors in receptacles b<1> .. b<5> are then readmitted to the boilers through conduits n and water from a tank c is pumped by a pump d through a preheater e and conduit h into the boiler a<1> and thence passes through the battery, pushing before it the glue liquor the temperature of which is adjusted in passing through heaters f<2> .. f<5>, the liquor being finally run off from a conduit k.
