Abstract

365,773. Fenders. BUNCLARK, C. H., Walden, Purley Bury Avenue, Purley, Surrey, and HOME WOOD, L. R., Park Lane, Charlton, London. Jan. 15, 1931, No. 1450. [Class 113 (i).] A shock-absorbing or like device stated to be applicable for resiliently mounting fenders on piers includes a casing 11 and a pin or shaft 14 mounted for lateral movement therein which pin is surrounded by a resilient element formed of a plurality of layers of rubber 18, or the like, of non-uniform thickness so as to provide air spaces between the rubber and sheet material, e.g. metal partitions 20, interspaced radially between the layers of rubber. The resilient element may be formed by spirally winding rubber and partitioning material, or of a plurality of concentric rubber rings with intermediate partitions. Alternatively the element may be built up of a plurality of rings 24, Fig. 4, or strips with intermediate thinner spacing rings 26 or strips. An arm 21 may be secured to the pin 14 to prevent rotation thereof. In one form, the resilient element formed of concentric rings is associated with a plurality of additional arcuate resilient strips 37, Fig. 8, separated by partitions 38. One or more pins 14 are carried by each end of the fender 32, the corresponding casings being mounted on the pier.
