Abstract
364,607. Machine guns. BOUSSEL, L. A., Smyrna, Syria. July 4, 1930, No. 20278. Convention date, July 5, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 92 (ii).] Consists in modifications of the devices described in Specification 355,767 for reloading machine guns after a missfire by automatically or manually connecting a supply of compressed air with the gas cylinder. In one construction for reloading any one of a number of guns, a main compressed air tank is connected through distributing cocks with auxiliary compressed air tanks 17 fixed one at each gun as shown in Fig. 3, the supply of air to the gas cylinder 4: being controlled by a cock 6 operated mechanically or electrically by the returning gas piston 5 or from a distance by a Bowden wire 152 or system of links so as to open a port 10 leading to the gas cylinder whilst closing the usual gas port 2 in the gun barrel. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which these ports are opened and closed alternately by a piston valve 8. Fig. 12 shows a further modification in which the pressure from the tank 17 acts on a piston 20 to open the port 30 leading to the gas cylinder and close the gas port 2 of the gun, the usual gas escape ports in the gas cylinder being simultaneously closed by a slide 46. These operations are effected through a three-armed lever 34 when the gas piston contacts with a member 31 to operate an auxiliary valve 26 which serves to connect the rear end of the cylinder 22 with the atmosphere through a calibrated port 29. In a modification, the air pressure acts on a piston connected with the usual cocking or reloading handle on the gun. Modifications of the mstal-link cartridge belt disclosed in Specification 355,767 are also described in which the cartridge-holding swivelling elements are arranged for removal of the cartridges in a forward direction.
