Abstract
364,064. Printing-machines. LOUGEE, F. G. and PATTINSON, T. E., - 109, Borough Road, London. Sept. 30, 1930, No. 29321. [Class 100 (ii).] Stopping and like arrangements. - In connection with the plate-clamping dogs or rings used for securing the plates in rotary printing- machines a control device is provided to operate an alarm and/or stop the machine in the event of the plate becoming loose on its cylinder, and is adjustable according to the width of the plate. The control device comprises a peg or roller 5, Figs. 1 and 6, which is carried by an arm 6 on a spring-controlled vertical shaft 7, and engages the end face of a clamping ring 3. If the ring 3 moves away from the plate 2, the shaft 7 is rotated and a pin 14 on it operates a switch 15 which either cuts off the driving current of an electromotor, or operates a visible signal. The shaft 7 is journalled in bearings 8 in a bracket 9 which carried by supports which are movable parallel to the axis of the cylinder 1 so as to adjust the device to plates of different widths. To enable the plates to be secured in position, the bracket 9 can be pivoted about a pin 16, and held in inoperative position by a spring-loaded catch 21 which snaps behind a latch 19. The latches of a series of brackets 9 may be simultaneously released, and each bracket 7 returns to its normal position in which it is held in position by a spring-loaded plunger 17 which engages a recess in a bracket 18. The peg or roller 5, Fig. 6; is mounted on a bell-crank lever 28 pivoted to the arm 6. A pin 14 on the bell-crank operates the switch 15 which is mounted on the arm 6. The shafts of the arm 6 and the lever 28 are both spring-urged towards the ring 3. The control device may be operated by an arm or lever which engages the underside of the plate and operates a switch upon the lifting of the plate away from the cylinder. An alarm device for a group of eight couples comprises eight red lamps 31, Fig. 7, around a central green lamp 30. If all the switches 15 are open the green lamp 30 is energized, but if one or more of the switches 15 are closed the lamp 31 indicates which of the plates is out of position.
