Abstract

363,741. Registering apparatus for negatives. CRAFTSMAN LINE-UP TABLE CORPORATION, 49, River Street, Waltham, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Oct. 6, 1930, No. 29901. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1929. [Class 98 (ii).] In printers' line-up tables, which are provided with two straight-edges movable across the table at right-angles to each other, and are particularly adapted for use in the registration of printing- plates, negatives, or proof-sheets used in multicolour printing, means are provided for effecting an accurate adjustment of the straight-edges. The table-top 2, Fig. 1, which may be of glass, is mounted in a frame 3, on which the straight-edges move, and in which the table-top is vertically adjustable, to enable the straight-edges to be brought close to the work. For this purpose, the table-top is supported on sliding posts operated by screws, which are geared together and are actuated by a single crank-handle. Each straight-edge a, Fig. 3, is supported on a carriage A comprising end-pieces 16 connected by a tube 17. Gears 15, housed in the end-pieces 16 and connected by a shaft 18, Fig. 7, passing through the tube 17, mesh with racks 7, 8 at the sides of the table. To enable a fine adjustment of the straight-edge to be made, it is mounted to slide on brackets 37, Fig. 7, on the tube 17, and is provided with short racks 40, which are engaged by pinions 41 on a shaft 42. The shaft 42 can be rotated by means of worm-gearing from a vertical shaft having a knob 46 and a graduated disc 47 cooperating with a pointer. The carriage A can be tilted about the shaft 18, in order to raise the straight-edge from the table, by means of pivoted cam-members 28, Fig. 9. In the lower position of the straight-edge, the carriage is locked in position by dogs 34, which engage the racks 7, 8. The straight-edges are graduated, and may support marking-devices. Gauges 12, Fig. 1, serve to determine the position of the work, and scales are provided at the sides of the table. Specification 264,750, [Class 100 (iii), Type making &c.], is referred to.
