Abstract
363,618. Systems for reducing coal ; impact pulverizers. LEHMANN, K., 233, Alfredstrasse, Essen, Germany.-(Assignees of Rheinische Stahlwerke ; Essen, Germany.) July 11, 1930, No. 21070. Convention date, July 31, 1929. [Class 59.] Coal is separated into its macroscopic banded constituents (fusain, durain, and vitrain) by subjecting it to resilient disintegrating or shattering action and then separating the different sized granules by screening. The degree of disintegration and sifting is ascertained by preliminary tests. The coal is subjected to blows or taps or beating as in a beater mill, which may comprise a perforated coned casing with a rotating shaft carrying beaters to fling the coal against the casing. The perforations range from about 4 mm. diameter near the intake to 1 mm. near the delivery end. The smaller fragments, mainly vitrain and fusain pass through the perforations ; the larger fragments, mainly durain pass to the delivery end of the casing. In an example, coal from a hopper a is preliminarily treated on a grading screen b and in a centrifugal mill d, before separation into its constituents by means of a vibrating screen e, cleaning tables g<1>, g<2>, g<3> and centrifugal mills h<1>, h<2>. Shale collects at B and fusain, vitrain, and durain in bunkers F, V, D respectively.
