Abstract

363,599. Stockings. PROPPER, L., 200, Madison Avenue, New York, U.S.A. May 6, 1931, No. 13345. [Class 141.] In addition to an ordinary double welt 3 at the top of a stocking, a second outer and narrower welt 1 is provided for suspension purposes. The narrow welt is attached to the main welt along a line 5, which is above the line where the main welt is attached to the leg part of the stocking. The attachment at 5 takes the form of a lock-stitch " run-stop " course so that if a " run " starts in the auxiliary welt, it is not carried on to the main welt or the stocking leg. The attachment of the main welt may be similarly carried out. In knitting the stocking, the hook bars for starting a welt are placed in the machine in the ordinary manner and a strip approximately three inches formed. The strip is then turned as at b, the main welt started, and the sequence of operations corresponding to c .. f carried out.
