361,438. Sound records. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Chapman, S. C. ; 37, 80th Street, Jackson Heights, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 26, 1930, No. 25497. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1929. [Class 40 (ii).] In order to avoid abrupt changes in the volume of sound reproduced from a film record when the reproduction is to be brought to an end, or when a transition occurs from one portion of a record to another on the same film, the negative is treated with a chemical reducing agent, such as Farmer's reducer, at the portions where the change is required. The Figure shows a combined sound and picture negative, having a portion 5 of the sound record of normal density. By suitable treatment with a reducer, the density is progressively decreased from the portion 6 until at the part 7 the film is practically clear. The pictures adjacent to the " faded " record may be correspondingly reduced.
