Abstract

360,791. Shop and warehouse fittings. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, U.S.A.- (Assignees of White, H. E.; 1302, Singer Place, Wilkinsburg, and James, H. D. ; 435, Locust Street, Edgewood, both in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) March 20, 1931, No. 8606. Convention date, March 20, 1930. [Class 116.] In a merchandizing establishment, each of a series of conveyers is adapted to move a number of receptacles 22, Fig. 1, past openings 26, 27 at lower and upper floors, doors 28, 29, which are interconnected so that one opening is closed when the other is opened being provided, together with means to prevent operation of the conveyer from one floor when the door at the other floor is open. The doors and conveyer may be moved in either direction from either floor by means of motors controlled by pushbuttons, depression of one of two additional buttons Cl, C2, Fig. 6, which are spaced from the other buttons to necessitate the use of both hands, being necessary for successful operation. A customer standing before the opening 26 simultaneously depresses the button C1 and either of the buttons CW1, CCWI, respectively governing forward and reverse motion ; a circuit is then closed to energize a relay 62 or 64, thus connecting the terminals of the conveyer motor 39 to the three-phase lines AC, and simultaneously energizing the coil 70 of a brake 71. Corresponding switches CW2 and CCW2 are provided on the upper floor to permit replenishment of the receptacles by an attendant, but limitation switches 50, 51 which are respectively engaged by the doors 28, 29 in their closed positions break the circuit to the corresponding relay 62 or 64. The doors are actuated by a motor 33 on depression of a button 149 or 150 together with the button C1 to close a relay 93 or 95 ; corresponding buttons 91, 122, being also provided on the upper floor. A series of " threshold " and " sash " switches 49 are also provided to stop movement of the convever in the event of jamming, while entrance and exit turnstiles are provided on the lower floor.
