Abstract

360,384. Purifying water ; gravity - separation apparatus. SOC. G•N•RALE D'EVAPORATION PROC•D•S PRACHE ET BOUILLON. 25, Rue de la PepiniÞre, Paris. April 28, 1930, No. 13078. Convention date, April 29, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 46]. In a process for the purification of water, the water and suitable chemical reagents are intensively mixed in the presence of steam and then subjected to a reduction of pressure which causes intense ebullition. The mixture of gas and vapour thus obtained is used to heat the incoming water while the non-vaporized water is decanted to remove precipitates. Two forms of apparatus are described. In Fig. 1 the water enters the apparatus by the tube 10, steam by the tube 12, and chemical reagents by the tube 31 from the tank 32. The mixture is circulated through the tank 1 by the propeller 3 and finally leaves by the valve 18 and passes into the receptacle 19 through the atomizer 20. Here it is partly vaporized and the mixture of gas and vapour passes to the condenser 23, heats the water supplied by the tube 26, and is removed by the pump 25. The unvaporized water in the receptacle 19 is led by the tube 28 to the decantation tank 29. In Fig. 2 the cold water from the tank 33 is heated in the heater 34 and flows on to the wheel 37 which regulates the supply of reagent from the hopper 40. The water and reagent are mixed in the tank 39 and then led by the pump 45 into the receptacle 46 from which they fall in cascades over the baffles 48 in the presence of steam admitted by the pipe 50. The pump 53 sucks the mixture up the tube 51 where it is atomized and the gas and vapour pass through the heater 34. Most of the unvaporized water in the tower 47<1> passes back to the tank 39 by the tube 58, while a fraction overflows through the tube 59 to the decantation tank 60 from which deposits are removed through the cock 61 controlled by the float 62. Excess steam passes through the tube 64 to the heater 34.
