Abstract
359,938. Insect traps. HARRIS, R. H. T. P., Empangeni, Zululand, South Africa. July 28, 1930, No. 22705. Convention date, June 6. [Class 5 (i).] A trap for the capture of bloodsucking flies, comprises, in combination, a platform 3 from which, extending downwardly, is arranged a four-sided framework enclosed on all four sides by opaque fabric or other opaque material 11, and a cage or container 8 of wire gauze arranged above an aperture in the platform 3 and having a pyramidal non-return entrance passage 5 of wire gauze for the passage of flies from the lower portion of the trap to the cage portion but preventing their exit from the latter. Flies, attracted by the shadow thrown by the trap and by the movement thereof, enter the lower portion of the trap at 7 and then being attracted by the light pass through the non-return aperture 6 into the cage 8 which may have hinged doors for the removal of dead flies, puperia, and the like. The trap may be suspended by means of rings or hooks 10, and may be constructed of wood or metal. A plurality of containers or cages 8 may be arranged on a single platform 3. The walls 2 may slope inwardly or outwardly or may be perpendicular. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the base of the pyramidal entrance may be oblong, square, or circular, according to the size of the trap. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
