359,351. Actuation of switches. SUDER, G., 71, Rue Donis-Papin-Pantin, Seine, France. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5618. [Class 38 (v).] Pneumatic actuation.-A device for breaking the coil ignition circuit of a motor car engine on stoppage of the engine, comprises a piston 4 in a cylinder 1 connected by a pipe 8 to the induction pipe 10. The cylinder 1 is closed by a corrugated diaphragm 17 supported by a cupped disc 18. On starting the engine, the reduction of pressure lifts the piston and makes contact with a spring-mounted contact 6 on an insulated terminal 15. A chamber 11 provided with small orifices, retards the flow of gas and prevents the sudden return of the piston under gravity during sudden acceleration. In a modification, an insulating button carried on the top of the piston presses together two insulated spring-mounted contacts. In engines which have to be started with the throttle wide open, an auxiliary shutter is mounted eccentrically in the intake pipe to produce a sufficient reduction of pressure for operating the switch. When the engine starts, the shutter assumes a position lengthwise of the intake but closes the intake again when the engine stops.
