Abstract

359,065. Shock-absorbers. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION, 12801, East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. July 23, 1930, No. 22255. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1929. [Class 108 (iii).] In hydraulic apparatus the working cylinder 12 is arranged below and in open communication with a reservoir and the piston is forced upwards by a spring 29 and downwards by the operating lever 25, the valve elements being gripped between the spring and the upper end of the piston and consisting of a perforated disc 20, shown also in Fig. 4, with flexible discs 23, Fig. 2, and 22, Fig. 3, arranged above and below it. The disc 23 leaves the outer ring of holes 21 uncovered and allows free upward movement of the piston while the disc 22 covers the holes 21 during downward movement and allows only a restricted flow of liquid from the cylinder through the central hole 21<1>.
