[Class 44.] Door fastenings for the doors of road vehicles of the kind having a pair of doors hinged at their remote edges and abutting at their adjacent edges without an intermediate door pillar comprise catches at the upper and lower edges of each door, the catches of each door being simultanously operable by a single operating means and independently of the catches of the other door. Fig. 2 shows catches 4 shot by springs 9 and having connecting rods 10 with hooked ends 11 engaging slots in links 12 pivoted to oppositely disposed arms 14 on a collar secured on the square spindle 16 of an operating handle, not shown. A flat striking plate has a bevel 43 leading to a pair of apertures 44 to receive the catches of the two doors. Fig. 3 shows a form in which the catch engages a notch in a projection 26 secured by an attachment plate 25, and the transmission rod 29 is a vehicle-wheel spoke the head of which engages a slot in a sliding plate 30. The pair of plates 30 are moved outwards by compression springs 33 and are retracted by follower arms on spindle 16 engaging shoulders 31 on the plates. A modification is described in which the catches are guided in tubes supported by angle brackets fitting the corners of the doors, and are withdrawn by cables connected to diametrically opposite points on a disc mounted on the square handle-spindle. The striking plate, Fig. 5, is an angle-plate with apertures 42 to receive door-positioning pins on the catch-supporting brackets, and with catch-receiving apertures divided into two parts by rollers 24, the catches engaging in one part before the door is properly closed, to provide a safety catch, and passing the rollers and engaging the other part when the door is fully closed.
