Abstract
Apparatus for washing or other wet treatment of artificial silk cakes comprises a plurality of movable tanks each having one or more carriers on its underside arranged to receive several cakes in a pile one below another and provided with an aperture in its bottom through which liquid can flow from the tank into the interior of the pile or piles of cakes, and a guideway for the tanks which permits them to be moved in succession beneath liquid supply means delivering liquid into each tank in turn. As shown in the drawings the cakes a are placed on a fluted rod d with a loose separator plate b between adjacent cakes. The upper end of rod d <PICT:0357971/IV/1> <PICT:0357971/IV/2> which is cylindrical enters a circular member d1 by means of which it is secured to the bottom of the tank e and the cylindrical portion is hollow and communicates with the flutings of the rod. A wing nut c holds the cakes in place. The separator plates may have projections to engage the cakes and prevent them from being damaged. If desired the cakes could be carried on flanged hollow perforated cylindrical members instead of being separated by the plates b. Each tank is provided with supporting bars p extending transversely beneath it, one at each end. A stand having a horizontal top serving as a guideway for the tanks is provided with an endless chain conveyer h on which the supporting bars p rest and by which the tanks e are carried from end to end of the guideway. A loading stand in line with the guideway receives the tanks after the cakes a have been placed on the carriers and the tanks are pushed by hand from this stand on to the conveyer h. A similar stand is provided at the other end of the guideway to receive the tanks from the conveyer. Liquid supply pipes f, f1 provided with filter bags are placed at intervals above the guideway. Receptacles g for receiving used liquid are placed beneath the guideway, and are provided with draining boards l arranged so that liquid falling from the cakes a after a particular tank e has passed from above a receptacle g and before it is above the next receptacle, is led back to the appropriate receptacle. The liquids may be pumped from the receptacles g and used over again if desired. In a modification, the conveyer is omitted, and the tanks are pushed along the guideway manually. The tanks may in this case be provided with rollers or wheels, or the guideway may have rollers on which the tanks rest. Specifications 344,279 and 358,151 are referred to.
