Abstract
356,688. Grinding screw-threads and other helical surfaces ; trueing rotating tools. REISHAUER-WERKZEUGE AKT.- GES., KREIS, E., and RICKENMANN, A., 87, Limmatstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland. March 3, 1930, No. 6981. Convention date, March 22, 1929. [Class 60.] In a machine for grinding the teeth of a gear wheel by an abrasive worm, means are provided for shaping and turning the grinding-worm whilst in position on the machine. The machine consists of a base 1 upon which are standards 2, 3 supporting a bracket 5 carrying, on a spindle 4, the grinding- worm S, the spindle being driven through an electromagnetic clutch 7 and belt gearing 8, 9, 10 from an electric motor 6 ; the worm also may be driven slowly during trueing in a reversed direction, by worm gearing from a motor 11, and the worm spindle is adjustable with the bracket 5 to allow for the pitch angle of the worm. The gear wheel Z to be ground is driven from the spindle 4 through worm gearing, a shaft 15, gearing 16, a shaft 17, a shaft 20, and worm gearing 21, 22, and is reciprocated axially by a carriage 27 movable on a standard 26 by a screw 34 driven by a liquid motor 31 fed from a pump 30, which is driven from the shaft 20 ; the direction of the motor is reversed, to reverse the motion of the carriage, by a reversing device 35 actuated by the carriage to move a reversing valve 36 and also to give the carriage 25, upon which the standard 26 is mounted, a movement to feed the work to the grinding-worm. The feed movement is brought about through a ratchet wheel 44 and a pawl 45, which actuate, through gearing, a screwed shaft 40 ; fine and coarse hand actuation are provided for by wheels 41, 39. The gear wheel also may be adjusted rotationally by a hand-wheel 38 and worm gearing. The grinding- worm is trued by abrasive wheels 51, 53 carried by a slide 48 adjustable transversely on a slide 47 movable on the bracket 5 parallel to the axis of the worm by a screw 67 driven, through gearing 66 and worm gearing, from the shaft 15. The wheels are driven, through flexible and extensible shafts 60, 61, belt gearing, and a clutch from the motor 6 ; the wheel 51 trims the flanks of the worm teeth and is angularly adjustable to suit the teeth, and the wheel 53 trims the periphery of the worm teeth. The wheels 51, 53 are trued respectively by diamonds 54, 53<1>, that 54 for the wheel 53 being adjustable to suit the profile of the wheel. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a profiling roll for roughing out the thread of the worm, and means for supplying cooling water comprising a perforated device extending the full length of the worm, the water being sprayed under high pressure; or the water may be supplied under pressure to the interior of the worm to feed outwards by centrifugal force. The various movements of the machine may be interlocked, and oblique teeth may be ground. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
