Abstract

354,790. Two-way repeaters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Columbia House, Aldwych. London.- (Western Electric Co., Inc. ; 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.) May 14, 1930, No. 14813. [Class 40 (iv).] In a two-way repeating system having echosuppressing apparatus located at or near each end, transmission in either path normally disables the other, but should transmission begin at both ends simultaneously, both paths are maintained in operative condition. At the west end of the system, the control apparatus comprises a relay R2 operated by currents over the path LL1 and adapted to short-circuit the path LL, and a relay R1 having opposing windings connected to both paths and adapted to prevent short-circuiting of the path LL. Similar control apparatus is located at the east end of the system. The purpose of the opposing lower winding of relay R1 is to prevent its possible operation by echo-currents before relay R2 pulls up. A delay circuit D may be inserted as shown. If two or more transmission circuits equipped in this manner are connected in tandem, the control apparatus at the junction points is removed. The invention may be applied to systems with a radio or submarine cable link in place of the four-wire section LL, LL1.
