Abstract
Hormone preparations, to be administered by injection or by the mouth, are prepared by causing hormones, or salt-like compounds thereof, or substances containing these, to react with desoxycholic acid, cholic acid, or other bile acid or salt or ester thereof, preferably in presence of an aqueous or other solvent. Substances promoting solution, other medicinal substances, stabilizing agents, and flavourings may also be added. Hormones specified are adrenalin, thyroxin, insulin, sexual hormones, and endocrine gland preparations; solvents are water, salt solutions, alcohol, acetic ether, acetone, glacial acetic acid or mixtures thereof; solution-promoting substances are lipoids, fats, oils, oleic acid and stearic acid or mixtures thereof; medicinal ingredients are lipoids, phosphatides and vitamines; stabilizing ingredients are benzoic acid, alcohol and chloroform; flavourings are sugar, vanillin and almond oil. In carrying out the reaction the bile acid may be dissolved in a solvent and the hormone added, or a solution of a hormone together with a solution of a bile acid may be introduced into oleic acid or ground nut oil, or the ingredients may be brought into reaction in the colloidal state, for instance by means of a colloid mill. A number of specific examples are given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the treatment of the hormones of the anterior and posterior lobes of the hypophysis, to the use of compounds and derivatives of bile acids and of the solution-promoting substances, and to the use of one of the reactionary substances in heat-liquefied condition. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
