Abstract

354,091. Washing bottles &c. PYLE, C. R., St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London. Sept. 9, 1930, No. 26956. [Class 138 (i).] An apparatus for washing and sterilizing bed-pans, surgical bowls, milk bottles, (Provisional Specification), and other appliances comprises a cabinet, preferably of non-corrodible metal, having a door 1 hinged at 2 about a horizontal Axis and having clips 10 to support the appliance P to be washed. The door 2 is provided with peripheral rubber packing 9 and is opened to insert the appliance P by a pedal 4 through linkwork 3. Cold water is projected against the appliance from a nozzle 12 connected to a flushing cistern by a pipe 15 into which disinfectant may be introduced. Steam is subsequently supplied through a nozzle 11, the connecting pipe 14 of which contains a valve opened by a cranked spindle, the cranked portion being arranged to lie in front of and prevent opening of the door 1 when the valve is open and being turned by hand or by a pedal. The door 1 is held normally closed by a weight 8 on the door 1. The cabinet is provided with a funnel-shaped discharge pipe 16 connected to the drainage system and with a vent pipe 26. The Provisional Specification states that a spring may be employed as an alternative to the weight 8 and that hot water may be used instead of steam.
