Abstract

A concrete comprising cement, sand, gravel, &c., and rubber latex is made into slabs, tiles, &c., or laid in situ with reinforcements of bamboo, laths or the like. Suitable proportions are 3 parts of sand &c., 1 part of Portland cement to which is added 1/2 -2 pints of latex per cubic yard. In making a slab, a layer of cement is placed in a mould, bamboos or laths are embedded in this layer parallel to each other, a layer of the concrete is placed on this, a second layer of reinforcement is embedded at an angle to the first, and a final layer is applied. Thatch may be imitated by embedding the laths &c. in the surface of roofing tiles. Cylindrical corks may be inserted into paving blocks. Roads, paths &c. may be surfaced with the concrete in situ, the reinforcement being inserted during laying.
