Abstract
353,279. Utilizing solar heat. HOLMES, A. H. and HOLMES, A. C., 42, Frobisher Road, Hornsey, London. Aug. 14, 1930, No. 24342. [Class 64 (ii).] A convection - current motor, for advertising devices, toys, or other purposes, comprises a casing, having ducts constituting a circulatory path for any fluid, such as air, which is caused to flow by solar, natural or artificial heat applied to one part of the casing, and a cylinder mounted in the path of the moving fluid so as to be rotated by friction of the fluid on its surface. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 3 with the roof removed, the casing is of glass and has glass partitions, and the rotating cylinder 8 is of paper or other light material carried on a vertical spindle. When the side 2 of the casing is heated by sunlight the air between this side and the adjacent partition rises into the roof of the casing, passes over the drum and partitions, descends between the opposite wall 3 and the adjacent partition, and then circulates as shown by the arrows, rotating the drum by friction on its surface.
