Abstract

349,964. Waterproof bags. JARRIER, R., 2, Rue de la Nef-d'Or, St.-Quentin, France. Feb. 20, 1930, No. 5642. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1929. [Class 99 (ii).] A machine for making a waterproof tube in layers from a single web of paper has a winding mandrel and cam means for waterproofing part of the web on its way to the mandrel by moving it into contact with an impregnating roller partly immersed in a bath of waterproofing material and with a moving pressing roller located on the side of the web remote from the impregnating roller, the pressing roller being supported by discs which coact with two rotary cams, to move the web into contact with the impregnating roller. Paper from a reel 4 is fed to a rotatable mandrel 1 and intermittently glued by rotating wheels 5, 7 lifted by cams 6 from a paste bowl 8. An automatic uncoupling device prevents the mandrel rotating after a predetermined number of revolutions. The paper is impregnated with oil, paraffin or other material when moved into contact with a wheel 19a rotating in the bowl 18 by a roller 21 carrying discs 22. This roller is carried in guides 20 and actuated by cams 33 on the discs 22. The cams 23 are driven from the shaft 9 of the winding mandrel 1. A roller 33 presses the paper into contact with the lip of a bowl 31 to return superfluous waterproofing material to the bowl 18. The machine may be provided with cutting mechanism for the paper band and may discharge the tube by electric or other means. Specification 310,670, [Class 99 (ii), Pipes, tubes, &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes means for preparing folds in the tube. Mounted on the end of the shaft 9, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), is a member 35 with U-shaped guides 34 having pointed noses 40. The tube is placed on the nose and drawn over the guide 34. A roller 38 is carried by a member 37 which enters the U-shaped guides 34 and prepares the folds. A waterproof bag prepared from layers of a single web of paper with the waterproofing material on a single layer is also described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
