347,026. Maintaining equal speeds of motors. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13A, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 15, 1930, No. 15002. Convention date, June 1, 1929. [Class 38 (iii).] The picture projector and sound reproducer of a talking- picture film apparatus are driven by separare motors and a governer controlling the excitation of one or both motors reacts to variations in the length of the film between the picture projector and sound reproducer to maintain synchronism The picture projection apparatus 1 is driven by a motor 3 and the sound - reproducing apparatus 2 by a motor 8. On the shaft of an elastically supported roller 11 is mounted an eccentric disc 13 which contacts during a part of each revolution with a brush 14 secured to a lever 15 and short-circuits a resistance interposed in the field circuit of the motor 3. A variation in the tension of the spring 12a due to a change in the length of the part of the film between the apparatus 1, 2 thus changes the time during which the resistance is short-circuited to synchronize the speeds of the film through the picture projector and sound reproducer respectively.
