Abstract

345,474. Coin-freed article delivery apparatus. FRY, B. L., 1922, Chestnut Street, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. March 10, 1930, No. 7764. [Class 27.] Articles stored on supports released in succession.- The articles are stored separately in compartments 3, Figs. 1 and 3, of a column 2, the open fronts of the compartments being closed by a vertically sliding shutter 7 which is lowered step-by-step to uncover one compartment at a time by an outward and inward movement of a rod 17 after prepayment. The rod 17 is connected to a bar 30 by a pin 49 engaging a slotted lateral arm 46 on the bar, which is provided on the side facing the compartments with a block 34, Fig. 7, having a curved upper edge ending in a forwardly-turned hook 38, and with a cam block 36 spaced apart from the block 34 to provide a passage between them for pins 11 extending laterally from the shutter 7. Normally the parts are in the position shown, with a pin 11 resting on a dog 40 pivoted to the bar 30. When the bar is pulled out, the pin passes under the hook 38 to the passage between the blocks 34, 36 and the dog is tilted upwardly by a spring 44 until an arm 42 thereon engages the end of the block 36, thereby preventing the bar from being pushed back. The hook 38, by engaging over the pin, prevents the shutter from being raised in an attempt to get two articles for one coin. When the bar is returned, the pin 11 travels round the cam block 36 and the shutter descends until the next pin rests on the dog 40. The inward movement of the plunger and bar by a spring 53 is limited by the end of the plunger 17 making contact with the end 56 of a bracket 55. Filling storage receptacles ; casings. - Normally the shutter is prevented from being pulled up by the pins 11 engaging the underside of the block 34. When the compartments are refilled, the pin 49 connecting the plunger 17 and bar 30 is withdrawn, and the spring 53 moves the bar 30 farther inwards until the pin 11 resting on the dog 40 abuts against a shoulder 43 thereon. The shutter can now be pulled up by a handle 13 and is held in its raised position by a hinged cover 62 of an inclined front of the machine engaging the handle 13, which cover must be lifted to obtain access to the pin 49. The cover 62 carries a box 64 to receive a sample article which can be viewed through a glass plate 68. Coin action, with stationary coin forming abutment. -A coin inserted through a slot 15 rests on a stud 151, Fig. 3, extending from a bracket 51, and forms an abutment for a dog 60 pivoted in a slotted portion of the plunger 17. When the plunger is pulled out, the dog is turned against the action of a spring 61 by the coin, so that its front end clears the front plate 32 of the bracket 55 and can pass through a hole 57 therein. When the dog 60 has passed, the coin rolls down to a hopper, 20. The coins inserted pass through a testing shoot 16, improper coins being rejected to a hopper 19. Coin-slit closing-devices.-When the machine is empty, a fin 22 on the shutter 7 engages a tail 26<1> of a pivoted plate 24, and moves this plate against the action of a spring under the coin-slit 15.
