Abstract
345,088. Shearing; rolling. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Morgan Construction Co.; 15, Belmont Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, U. S. A.) March 17, 1930, No. 8535. [Class 83 (iv).] Roller tables.-In a device for cutting into lengths a moving rolled bar, the actuation of flying shears is derived from a measuring roller driven frictionally from the bar. The bar travels from finishing rolls 1, on rollers 2, under a measuring roll 5 to the flying shears 74. When no stock is under the roll 5, an arm 8 rises to close contacts 34, 68, and an electromagnet 28 is energized to clutch a gear 19 to a shaft 11. The measuring roll 5 and a control shaft 18 are then rotated from a main power shaft 25 to eliminate the effect of inertia. When the bar depresses the arm 8, the contact is opened to allow the roll 5 to drive the control shaft 18. When the arm 8 is freed from the stock, an electromagnet 50 is energized to lock a shaft 40 against a stationary armature 55. To effect this, a solenoid 61 is energized by the closing of contacts 64 by a member on the shaft 40 and the contact 68, and this closes a contact 57, 59 to energize the electromagnet 50 and lock the shaft 40. When the arm 8 is depressed, the contact 68 causes de-energization of solenoid 61 and a contact 60 is made to energize the electromagnet 42 which clutches the shaft 36 to the shaft 40. The shaft 40 carries a segment 70 co-operating with the contact 71 for closing circuit through the operating solenoid 7 of the shears 74. After the initial crop cut, the frequency of the cuts is determined by the shaft 40 driven through a belt 16 from the measuring roller. The shears may be manually operated by a lever 82 or switch 83. In order to vary the length of the crop end, the contact 71 may be adjustable. Variation of the lengths cut is obtained by shifting the belt 16 or by a dynamo arrangement, Fig. 10, not shown.
