[Classes 9 (i) and 119.] A box magazine for small arms is split longitudinally ats, Fig. 2, from the mouth downwards so that the mouth can be opened out to admit the charger 8 and closed again by a slider 7 to retain the cartridges. The charger is in two strips 8<1>, 8<2>, Fig. 7, which can be withdrawn by a handle connecting the strips after closing the mouth of the magazine. The strip 82 may extend outwardly to enclose the bullet ends of the cartridges.
