Abstract
341,544. Coin-freed amusement apparatus. CHUBBS AUTOMATIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., South African Building, and PINDER, G., 25, Oakington Manor Drive, both in Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 19, 1929, No. 31764. [Class 27.] Coin action, weigltt.-In a coin-freed amusement apparatus in which the coins inserted, less a percentage retained by the machine, are returned to the operator as prizes delivered at irregular intervals occurring in a definite repeated sequence, a momentary indication is given at each operation of the machine, such indication being varied at each successive operation according to a sequence which corresponds to the sequence of prize deliveries. Each coin inserted drops down a shoot 2, Fig. 2, to a sliding carrier 3 where it is supported by a pin 23 on a trip lever 22 having a depending pawl 24. In this position, it tilts a lever 7c which, through a rod 7b, releases a catch 7a retaining a lever 7. By rocking an outside handle on a shaft 13, an arm 14 engages a depending arm 15 on a slide 11 and moves this slide to rock the lever 7 on its pivot 8 against the action of a spring 9 which is connected to the slide 11 through a bell-crank lever 10. The lever 7 moves the carrier 3 across the machine behind a glass panel, a figure being attached to the carrier to draw attention to its movement. The carrier moves above a series of slots marked with the names of various " stocks " or " shares " and, during its return, the pawl 24 is tripped by one of a series of pins 25 projecting radially at different angles from a shaft 26. This releases the coin which drops through the slot of a particular " share " thereby giving a momentary indication, and falls down a shoot 5 to a rotary drum 6. A full stroke of the lever 7 is ensured by a pawl and rack 8c, 8a and its motion is regulated by a flier 21 geared to the shaft 20 of the bell-crank lever 10 so that the carrier is moved slowly. The drum is rotated step-by-step by a pawl 42 on the lever 7 engaging a star-wheel attached thereto. The drum is divided by radial partitions into compartments of different sizes, the contents of which are delivered through a slot in a cover plate 37a to a shoot 37 for return to the operator. One compartment is provided with a ledge 40 which prevents the coin therein from entering the shoot 37 but which allows it to pass to a second shoot 38 leading to the money-box. The number of teeth on the star-wheel is the same as the number of pins 25 on the shaft 26 which is rotated through bevel gearing from a vertical shaft 27. The shaft 27 carries a ratchet-wheel 28 which is rotated by a pawl on a slide 30 actuated by the lever 7. An indicating drum 46 on a shaft 45 geared to the shaft 26 is marked with the words " yes" and " no," to give an indication whether the next operation of the machine will result in the delivery of a prize or not.
