Abstract

341,129. Bottling gaseous beverages. PICKUP, F., Lightbowne Road, Moston, Manchester. Oct. 19, 1929, No. 31794. [Class 125 (ii).] Relates to rotary bottling machines. According to the invention a machine for bottling aerated waters &c. has a rotary table a to which bottles are fed and filled without being lifted above the plane of the table. Filling heads d mounted on a plate b rotate with the table a. Each head comprises a cylindrical housing c having a shaped abutment d<3> while the head has a co-operating cam-face d<4>. The nozzle portions of the filling heads are normally held in their lowermost position by internal springs, but are lifted when the ]ever arms d<5> engage a cam-plate e. An additional lever arm d<6> on the sleeves d co-operates with an upright f to damp the action of the springs as the nozzles descend. Each filling-nozzle comprises a rubber sealing member e on a hollow spindle e<1>, and a ball-valve e<4>, the part el being raised on presentation of a bottle to lift the ball-valve. The parts e<1> are interchangable and suit bottles of different heights. Each filling head is connected by a flexible pipe g to a rotary distributer plate h having a series of ports h<2> corresponding to the number of filling heads. A stationary vessel k having a high-pressure compartment k<1> and a lowpressure compartment k<2> has a ported leather disc j in the base thereof. Gas is introduced by a pipe k<4> and snift tubes k<5> project from ports in the base of the vessel k above the normal fluid level in the chamber k<2>. The bottles are filled by a successive series of fills and snifts according to the size &c. of the bottle to be filled. Means are provided to allow the three final snifts to escape to the atmosphere if desired. The ports in the leather disc j are arranged to co-operate with ports in the distributer h as required. The pipe k<8> leads to a suitable pressure-relieving apparatus.
