[Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] Television transmitters and receivers comprise " electro-optical light image microphones " adapted to signal all parts of a picture simultaneously. The transmitter comprises a condenser arranged in a tuned circuit and containing a photo-electric plate on which the image to be transmitted is projected. In this way a complex of high-frequency oscillations representing the pictures is said to be produced. The arrangement at the receiver is somewhat similar, the " oscillation configuration " set up in the condenser giving rise to such a distribution of the discharge from a source of electrons as to reproduce the picture on a fluorescent plate of the condenser. The transmitter condenser, which may comprise a transparent diaphragm of wire-netting or of " nickel-gold-iron " and also a photo-electric plate, is enclosed in a lenticular glass case (Fig. 3, not shown) containing a rare gas at low pressure. The receiver condenser (Fig. 11, not shown) is similar and comprises in addition a thin-walled glass plate which serves as a dielectric and is coated with a fluorescent screen upon which electrons from the cathode impinge. The " oxide cathode " consists of a zig-zag wire wound on an insulating ring. The transmitter as a whole is mounted in gimbals so that it may be directed on any object (Figs. 13, 14, not shown). A quartz and fluorspar objective may be used for ultraviolet radiation. The Specification does not admit of satisfactory abridgment.
