[Class 40 (ii).] In the production of a picture film in association with sound wherein the pictures are not taken in the order in which they are to be reproduced, the sound is recorded on a single carrier, for example a magnetic wire or band, which is adjusted backwards or forwards between the taking of the pictures so that the sounds are recorded in the correct order in which the pictures will be reproduced when correctly correlated, as regards close-up and distant shots and indoor and outside views. In thus making the complete sound record and parts, for example, the long shots, of the picture record, the sound and picture apparatus are run in synchronism, and subsequently the apparatus are uncoupled and the sound record is reproduced to assist by means of counter or pointer mechanism in indicating the parts of the picture film at which certain, for example, the close-up shots, of the image records are to be interpolated. The apparatus is then positioned suitably for these picture images to be made, and if desired the corresponding sound record which was produced by a distant microphone, can be blanked out by a magnet and substituted by a sound record produced by a microphone positioned more suitably to suit the picture being recorded.
