Abstract

340,781. Thermostats. GRAYSON, J. H., 3109, East 114th Street, Lynwood, California, U.S.A. Jan. 2, 1930, No. 183. [Class 135.] A thermostat for use with gas heated water heaters, ovens &c. of the snap-action type has the rod 6 associated with the thermal tube 7 provided with a plunger 27 adapted to bear on an intermediate part of a resilient lever or levers resting at one end on a shoulder on the casing and at the other end on the centre of a normally convexo-concave disc 26 bearing against the end of the valve spindle. The valve member 21 is held on a reduced part of the valve spindle by a spring 25 bearing against metallic and graphiteasbestos washers, 41, 42 and the valve spindle passes through a similar washer 37 held in position by a ferrule 38 driven into the recess housing the washer. The end of the spindle is provided with an adjustable tappet 39 and the rod 6 is adjustably screwed in a plug 12 secured to the inner end of the tube 7, a handle provided with a pointer 14 being secured to the rod for this purpose. The valve member is enclosed in a strainer 46 held on a shoulder surrounding the valve seat by a recessed screwed plug 45. The snap-disc rests loosely on a bevelled shoulder in the casing and may be removed when the snap action is not required. The levers are made of resilient material and are connected by an annulus of metal at their outer ends to facilitate assembly. Specification 327,775, [Class 135, Valves &c.], is referred to.
