340,135. Reason, R. E., and Kapella, Ltd. Dec. 23, 1929. Diaphragms.-Optical slits of the kind comprising two members with adjacent parallel edges and means for varying the space between them to constitute the slit are constructed in the form of a disc A of substantial thickness. This is recessed on one side so as to leave a thin membrane C through which the slit is cut right across the disc, leaving two ligaments F, G about which the two halves may be moved relatively. The ends of the slit D are widened as shown.. The half H of the disc may be fixed rigidly by screws in the holes I, J, K and the other half L moved relatively to the half H by the screw M. Alternatively, the ligaments P, G could be attached separately to the members H, L, or these members could be attached to an annular disc.
