Thread-cutters and thread-end holders.-Thread-cutting and nipping mechanism for a two-thread machine such as described in Specification 4417/08 located to one side of the needle-hole in the throat-plate, has a thread bender to carry the underthread into range of the movable blade of the cutter. The invention is illustrated as applied to a straight buttonhole sewing machine. The needle vibrates laterally and works through a slot 11 in the throat-plate 12. The last stitch is made, as is usual, as close as possible to the thread-cutter and nipper, which comprise stationary cutting and nipping blades 16, 17 between which are pivoted at 18 the movable cutting and nipping blades 19, 20 respectively. The cutter 19 has an actuating arm 21 to engage the operating push bars 23, 24. The movable nipper blade 20 is pivoted to the cutter blade. The device is mounted by screws to the under side of the guide rib of the cross slide 7, close to the slot 11 but out of alignment therewith. A thread bender 28, pivoted at 27 on the plate 7, is therefore provided to bring the under-thread t into range of the cutting and nipping mechanism. The bender has a horizontal slot 29 providing top and bottom legs 30, 31, Fig. 7, straddling the movable blades 19, 20. The legs have thread-catching fingers 32, 33 to convey the thread to the cutters and nippers. The arm is actuated by a link connection 34 with a slide bar 35 carrying a stud 36 embraced by the end 37 of a lever 38 operated by the rock shaft 43.
