Abstract

337,469. Graham Amplion, Ltd., Richets, W. J., and Sinclair, D. Aug. 3,1929. Relaying or repeating systems; bearings and distances, determining; signalling to or from aircraft.-For indicating the route to aircraft or the like, beacon stations located along or on both sides of the route are adapted to emit characteristic wireless or visible signals when excited by wireless signals received from the aircraft or from a controlling station. In the embodiment illustrated, at each beacon station signals received by an aerial 10 and receiver 11 effect the closure at 15 of a circuit through the magnet 18 which closes at 22 the control circuit for the transmitter 13, 12, and at 20 a hold-on circuit for itself.. On the cessation of the exciting-signal the armature 15 falls back and completes a circuit, prepared by the armature 21, through the time-consuming magnet 27 which, after an interval, short-circuits the magnet 18 via 30, 33 and restores the circuits to normal. At sea such a station may be mounted on buoy, energy being supplied by a generator driven by wave-power through a jointed fin. The buoy may carry a lamp or siren. The emitted radiation may comprise twin waves of the type described in Specification 335,967. Thermionic valve circuits. - The apparatus may embody (Fig. 2, not shown) a filamentfailure safety and alarm device of the kind described in Specification 280,841. Each valvefilament is in series with a relay which, on failure of the filament, cuts in a substitute valve. The filament of the latter is 'in series with a heat-coil which acts to cut in an alarm circuit.
