Abstract

336,679. Cooke, C. B. July 20, 1929. Small chambers; air and gases, controlling circulation of; heating-fittings.-A cabinet 10 is divided by an horizontal partition 11 of wire mesh into an upper compartment 12 for articles to be dried and a lower compartment 13 in which are accommodated two heating coils 14, 114 and a fan 15 driven by a motor 16. The upper compartment has a pair of swing doors 17 of double thickness and is provided with brackets 18 on which rails for supporting clothes may be lodged. The two sides and, if desired, the rear also of the cabinet may be double walled to provide flues 21 extending from near the roof 22 of the cabinet to below the partition 11. Air is drawn over the coils 14, 114 and forced by the fan through an opening in an outwardly coned partition 23 and through the partition 11. A housing 26 protects the motor from falling moisture. The sides and the bottom of the lower compartment are lined with asbestos sheets secured bv clamps 31. An electric lamp 33 with a spectrum strong in those rays lying in the solar spectrum between the Fraunhofer lines Band E is arranged at the top of the cabinet. The cabinet is supported on four balls 41 and is preferably constructed so that it can be dismantled into a number of flat, rectangular elements. The current supply is controlled by a switch 34 which is connected with a pilot lamp 32 to indicate whether the heating coils or the fan or both are on or off. A time switch to control the current to the coils and fan may be fitted. In a modification the height of the lower compartment is reduced and the cabinet is arranged upon a stand having vertical legs secured by diagonal braces; the space below the cabinet can then be utilized for storage.
