Abstract

336,456. Humphrey & Glasgow, Ltd., (Assignees of Fulweiler, W. H.). Dec. 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Materials for purifying.-A method of preventing the formation of gummy deposits in a gas distribution system consists in treating the gumforming compounds such as indene and styrene, without their removal from the gas, with mono- or polyhydric derivatives of benzene or its homologues. These derivatives may be added by any suitable, method such as by passing the gas through a chamber into which they are sprayed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also, in connection with gas meters in which the diaphragm dips into oil, the addition of small quantities of mono- or poly-hydric derivatives of benzene or its homologues to the meter oil to prevent the formation of gum by compounds absorbed by the oil and the consequent hardening of the diaphragm and sticking of the valves. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
