336,136. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and Saunders, K. H. Nov. 14, 1929. Addition to 329,260. Apparatus for reactions between liquids. - The apparatus for carrying out continuous reactions between liquids under pressure which forms the subject of the parent Specification is - constructed of anti-corrosive material in the parts liable to be attacked by the reagents. In the illustrated embodiment for the manufacture of p-nitro-aniline from p-chloronitrobenzene and aqueous ammonia, the outer tube A is protected by a mantle E of stainless steel and the central tube G is of the same material. The preheated ammonia liquor is supplied at B and after passing down between the outer shell and the protective mantle enters the space F and as it rises through the packing material I meets the falling stream of melted p-chloronitrobenzene which is supplied by the distributor K. The reaction products overflow through the tube G and are drawn off at L.
